It’s that time of year again. The time of year when all is new again, when we find out about all of our future favorite vehicles from Chevy. We’ve already exhaustively covered the Camaro, Malibu and Volt, all of which receive a full redesign for 2016. We’ve now received word that the Chevy Cruze will be fully redesigned as well, with a full reveal set for June 24th. But that’s three weeks away! That’s so much time! Why can’t we know more now? Well, we have some information at Harbin Automotive. Here’s what we know about what’s new in the 2016 Chevy Cruze.
Expect longer, lower design. In the last two years, we’ve seen a common theme in several of Chevy’s most popular models. The Impala started it off in 2014 with its curvy, low-slung profile, a process that was continued with the newest versions of the Malibu and Volt. With the Cruze set to reveal its 2016 model, it’s safe to assume that this model will employ some of the same stylistic choices as its larger siblings, resulting in a vehicle that is a little longer and a little more spacious than the outgoing model.
Get ready for all-new smartphone integration. We mentioned this just last week, but it’s worth noting again: the 2016 Chevy Cruze will be among the first models to offer the integration of both Google Android Auto and Apple Carplay, which allow for seamless syncing of smartphones with the Chevy’s infotainment interface. It will allow a greater degree of sophistication than was previously available, the full details of which can be found here.
Lighter and more efficient. A key through-line between all of Chevy’s new models, whether it’s the Camaro or Malibu, is that they’ve taken great pains to reduce the weight of their cars. Chevy has incorporated lightweight aluminum elements throughout the frame and suspension which, combined with Chevy’s new direct-injected engines, has helped to return fuel economy ratings that are up to 20% higher than in past models.
The full details of the 2016 Chevy Cruze will be released later this month, so continue checking in at Harbin Automotive as the release date approaches!
