As drivers, we certainly try to know the ins and outs of how our cars work. We know its ticks, we know its quirks. Over time, we probably become attuned to our vehicles to the point where we don’t trust others to drive it; such is the power of the car-driver dynamic. Yet, one area where we know frustratingly little is when it comes to our batteries. So, today, we’re going to divulge some important car battery information that might help during your automotive life.
Important Car Battery Information
Most batteries if properly cared for tend to last about five years, even if manufacturers might say they last a lot longer. A cheap battery might last a little bit less, while an expensive one might last a little longer. The timespan you’ll get out of your battery will depend on the maintenance you give it, so that’s why it’s important that you’re doing what you can to keep it fresh.

One thing that you can do to keep your battery operating at optimal levels is to use lithium grease or anti-corrosion spray, and then to use a wire brush to remove corrosion from your battery posts. Additionally, as your alternator charges the battery during operation, it’s important to drive your car for at least an hour or two every couple of weeks to ensure that it’s getting a regular charge.
Charging Your Battery
Regardless of the steps you take to keep your battery healthy, it will eventually fail. However, this doesn’t necessarily mean that you need to go buy a new one right away. In addition to the jumpstart, which is quick and easy, you can also have your battery recharged by a mechanic. If this isn’t the way you choose to go, you can also buy a battery recharger that simply plugs into an electrical outlet and hooks onto your battery.
