We’ve already written about the various powertrain options that will be available on the all-new 2019 Chevy Silverado, but at that time we had limited information about the capability that this excellent full-sized truck would bring to the road. If you have been wondering how much can the 2019 Chevy Silverado tow, or what kind of fuel economy you can expect on this new truck, we finally have more information. And, we promise that it will make you smile. Select body style and engine combinations on the new Silverado will offer 500 pounds more towing than previous years.

How much can the 2019 Chevy Silverado tow?
[bscolumns class=”one_half”]The towing capacity of the 2019 Chevy Silverado 1500 will depend on the engine options and body styles. We now know these capabilities for all engines with the exception of the diesel model that will be available later. You can check out maximum towing and payload capacity for all of the new Silverado’s gas engines below.
- 4.3-liter V-6 – 8,000 pounds towing, 2,500 pounds payload
- 5.3-liter V-8 (6-speed automatic transmission) – 8,000 pounds towing, 2,500 pounds payload
- 5.3-liter V-8 (8-speed automatic transmission) – 11,600 pounds towing, 2,190 pounds payload
- 2.7-liter 4-cylinder turbo – 7,200 pounds towing, 2,280 pounds payload
- 6.2-liter V-8 – 12,200 pounds towing, 2,100 pounds payload
Will these engines offer good fuel economy?
We don’t know the full mileage numbers for these powertrains at this point, and will probably do another blog when there are full specifications available. However, we know that the 5.3-liter V-8 engine equipped with the eight-speed automatic transmission will be able to offer up to 17 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway. The elite 6.2-liter V-8 will offer 16 mpg in the city and 20 mpg on the highway.
