If you were looking for a reason to love today — October 21st, 2015 — a good excuse is that it’s “Back to the Future Day.” As you may or may not know, today is the date that Marty travels to in the original Back to the Future II, where he is attempting to save his children. A big day, indeed. In order to help bring awareness to Back to the Future Day, Ford is now offering a Flux Capacitor on select models of the 2016 Focus and 2016 Fiesta! (Bear with us here.)
Ford Back to the Future Day Flux Capacitor
So, what does a Flux Capacitor do? What, have you never seen the movie? The Flux Capacitor makes time travel possible, in that it takes the power created by revving the DeLorean (or Focus/Fiesta, in this case) up to 88 mph, then disperses it throughout the body of the vehicle to create 1.21 gigawatts of energy, exactly what is needed to travel through time. (Still bearing with us? Good.)

Are there any warnings we should know about? Yes, time travel is rife with potential hazards; if the Back to the Future trilogy taught us anything, it’s this. First off, be certain to avoid your future self at all costs, as this may cause a rift in the space-time continuum. Next, avoid using sports almanacs to receive financial gain through gambling; Biff Tannen learned this one the hard way. Finally, use care when time-traveling, as there are different social norms that are inherent to each era that might present their own sets of challenges. For example, if you wear Calvin Klein underwear to the Old West, expect to attract a fair bit of curiosity.

Anything else we should know? Oh yeah, just this, taken directly from the Ford website:
Yes, this is all an elaborate ruse to bring a little joy and attention to one of pop culture’s most memorable film series. So, no, you can’t actually buy a Flux Capacitor; for that, we are sorry. However, you can find the 2016 Ford Focus and 2016 Ford Fiesta soon at Harbin Automotive, and we encourage you to do so.
And, to make sure there are no hard feelings, here are 11 things you might not know about Back to the Future, coming to you from our friends at io9.
