Although the 2019 Ford Ranger might not be enough of a match against the Chevy Silverado, its size positions it as a new competitor against the Chevy Colorado. Therefore, we were interested to see how these 2 models will match up. Which is the better pickup truck, the 2018 Chevrolet Colorado or the 2019 Ford Ranger?
Although a lot of information regarding the 2019 Ford Ranger has yet to be released, such as pricing and engine specs, the Ford automotive company has made many features information, engine options, and trim levels of the upcoming 2019 Ford Ranger available. Engine and Transmission Options
The 2018 Chevy Colorado comes with 3 engine options. The baseline engine is a 2.5L inline 4 engine that produces up to 200 horsepower and 191 lb-ft of torque. Meanwhile, there is also a 3.6L V6 engine upgrade. This high-powered engine produces up to 308 horsepower and 275 lb-ft of torque! Finally, there is also a diesel engine option with the 2.8L Duramax® Turbo-Diesel inline 4 engine. This produces 181 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque.
Additionally, the baseline 2018 Chevy Colorado comes with a 6-speed manual transmission. However, higher trim levels offer an 8-speed automatic transmission option.
Although we don’t the power output of the 2019 Ford Ranger, we do know its engine option. The 2019 Ford Ranger will come with a single baseline engine, that of a 2.3L EcoBoost® turbocharged inline 4 engine designed to prioritize power and efficiency. As for the transmission, the 2019 Ford Ranger comes with a class-exclusive 10-speed automatic transmission.
There are many build and trim options for the 2018 Chevrolet Colorado. There are 3 distinct cab and cargo bed configurations, 2 choices of powertrain, and 3 engine options that we discussed above. For the 2019 Ford Ranger, it is expected that the build of this revitalized pickup truck is standard, meaning it won’t have the cab and bed customization options of the 2018 Chevy Colorado. However, it does have 3 trim levels announced. Those are the baseline XL, the XLT, and the LARIAT.
