2018 Ford F-150 Diesel Engine Power Specs
If you’ve ever wanted to move a trailer or haul a large load, you know that the more torque you have, the better off you feel. Torque helps turn your wheels against both gravity and weight from a trailer, allowing the vehicle to move smoothly. For big loads, higher torque is a necessity.
Up until this point, the 2018 Ford F-150 has been available with a range of gasoline engines that have provided huge torque numbers, but for the first time, Ford is offering their iconic F-150 with a diesel engine – promising best-in-class torque and huge efficiency numbers as well.
We’ve been anticipating a diesel entry from Ford for a while, who spent the better part of last year teasing the efficient monster and now we have some specs on this best-in-class diesel half-ton.
2018 Ford F-150 Diesel Performance
The 2018 Ford F-150 Diesel packs a 3.0L Power Stroke® V6 engine. As the younger sibling to the 6.7L Power Stroke® V8 found in Ford’s F-Series Super Duty line of full-size pickup trucks.
This new engine will bring some staggering performance specs to the F-150.
2018 Ford F-150 Diesel Horsepower and Torque
The 2018 Ford F-150 Diesel brings 250 horsepower to Ford’s half-ton. Even more astonishing is the best-in-class 440 lb-ft. of torque (@ 1,750 rpm) present on the 2018 Ford F-150 Diesel.
2018 Ford F-150 Diesel Towing and Payload
Drivers who choose the 2018 Ford F-150 Diesel for towing will be delighted by the towing capacity of the F-150’s diesel debut. Engineered to tow up to 11,400 lbs., the 2018 Ford F-150 Diesel allows you to take even more even further than ever before.
Payload on the 2018 Ford F-150 Diesel is rated at 2,020 lbs., which means the 2018 Ford F-150 Diesel is as good for a long day at the work site, as it is for a long trip to the campsite over the weekend.
2018 Ford F-150 Diesel Transmission
Specifically calibrated for the 2018 Ford F-150 Diesel’s 3.0L Power Stroke® engine, Ford’s SelectShift® 10-speed automatic transmission is able to take advantage of the engine’s low-end power and torque curves.
2018 Ford F-150 Diesel Fuel Efficiency
While not officially tested, the 2018 Ford F-150 Diesel has a targeted EPA fuel efficiency of 30 miles per gallon on the highway.
2018 Ford F-150 Diesel Performance Features
Engineered from the bottom up for performance, the 2018 Ford F-150 Diesel is built with a high-efficiency variable-geometry turbocharger. Unlike competition in the diesel truck space, Ford’s F-150 Diesel is built for towing in less-than-optimal conditions.
Competing diesel trucks use electric cooling fans which tend to operate poorly in extreme heat and altitude. Ford took a look at this performance before deciding to give the 2018 Ford F-150 Diesel a viscous-controlled mechanical fan. According to Ford diesel engine technical specialist, David Ives, this made a huge difference.
This gives F-150 Power Stroke owners more power and more passing capability in harsh conditions.
2018 Ford F-150 Diesel Release Date
Beginning later this month, you’ll be able to preorder the 2018 Ford F-150 in its Power Stroke® diesel variant. We will, of course, let you know here on our blog and Facebook page when you’re able to do that.
