2017 Ford Raptor Supercrew Drops Jaws at Detroit’s NAIAS

We’ve been up to our elbows in model news from Chevy and Ford coming out of Detroit’s North American International Auto Show, which is going on now. Many of the most exciting models will likely never see the light of day, and are intended to simply stoke the embers of anticipation of fanboys worldwide. However, some models are virtual locks to see production, including the 2017 Ford Raptor Supercrew, which received its unveiling at the famed auto show.

More Space, Of Course

Perhaps the most telling facet of the 2017 Ford Raptor Supercrew is that it takes what people love about the Raptor (its otherworldly performance) and adds valuable interior space for gear or passengers. It does this by extending the wheelbase by 12 inches, while also getting a 6-inch widening for better stability. This allows the Raptor Supercrew to offer wide-swinging rear doors, making for easier in-and-out than in the standard Raptor.

Yet, despite its longer, wider profile, the new Raptor is about 500 pounds lighter than before, meaning that it will be more agile and responsive during high-stress driving situations. Thanks to…

The New Terrain Management System

Because of the diverse terrains that the Raptor Supercrew intends to conquer, the new Terrain Management System was a must. Drivers can now switch between six preset modes to better accommodate any driving situation: Normal, for everyday driving; Street, for high-performance on-road driving; Weather, for when snow, rain or ice are present; Baja, for taking on sand; Rock, for low-speed rock-climbing; and Mud and Sand mode. It truly seems as though the Raptor Supercrew has managed to take on every possible scenario.
