Continuing what has been something of a trend in the last few days, we’re going to (virtually) return to the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, where we’ve already received a first look at the 2017 Ford Raptor Supercrew, which you can read about by clicking the link below. We’ve also recently gotten a first look at the 2017 Ford Fusion Sport, which represents a bold push forward for our flagship midsize sedan. So let’s take a peek at what we have to look forward to, shall we?
2017 Ford Fusion Sport
Performance Unlike Any Other
You wouldn’t expect a Fusion wearing “Sport” badging to underwhelm at the pedal, would you? The 2017 Ford Fusion Sport will feature an all-new twin-turbocharged 2.7L EcoBoost V6 that is projected to return 325 hp and 350 lb-ft of torque. To put in perspective what sort of performance this is, the all-wheel-drive Fusion Sport will achieve approximately 100 lb-ft of added torque and almost 50 more horsepower than V6 engines from competing models such as the Toyota Camry and the Honda Accord. So, competitors, you’ve been warned.
New Sport-Centric Handling Features
Given its gaudy power numbers, it stands to reason that the 2017 Ford Fusion Sport would show up in the handling department as well. The Fusion Sport now offers continuously controlled damping to reward drivers with real-time suspension tuning. It also features pothole detection technology that adjusts shock absorbers to reduce the effect of quick changes in road conditions, while its exterior is aggressive as well; deeper air intakes are joined by a gloss black-finish metal grille, while 19-inch wheels, a rear spoiler and dual twin exhaust outlets have been added as well.
Going hand in hand with its awesome styling and performance features, the Fusion Sport also offers awesome tech amenities for 2017. The crash mitigation features have been well-documented: lane-keeping assist does exactly what it sounds like, while the available Blind Spot Information System (BLIS) with cross-traffic alert detects vehicles approaching out of view of the driver. Finally, the SYNC 3, Ford’s all-new communications and entertainment system, delivers faster performance and enhanced voice recognition, meaning that the 2017 Ford Fusion Sport will be the most connected edition yet.
