2016 Ford Focus RS
Hot off the presses, you guys, and this one is pretty exciting: Ford has finally released the details for the 2016 Ford Focus RS, which–spoiler alert!–is about the baddest hot hatch that you’ll ever see. And, since Ford has promised that it will be released in the United States (previously, this model has only existed in foreign markets), so those among us who enjoy getting the lead out on Alabama backroads truly have something major to look forward to. Here’s what we at Harbin Automotive know so far about the Focus RS.
It borrows its powertrain from the Mustang. Before we even touch on the outrageous styling, let’s tackle the biggest news first. The 2016 Focus RS will receive the same 2.-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine that you’ll find in the 2015 Mustang, which gives the compact hatchback truly bonkers power numbers. Ford has estimated that the model will produce somewhere in the neighborhood of 320 horsepower and 320 pound-feet of torque. To put this perspective, these are power numbers higher than the 2.3-liter achieves in the Mustang, and are 63 hp more than you’d find in the Focus ST.
Yes, yes, yes…it has a manual transmission…and AWD. One of the items that we’ve been waiting to hear about was the transmission in the RS. Nothing against an automatic transmission, but seriously…with what the RS is packing under the hood, it simply had to have a manual. To that end, Ford is featuring a six-speed manual gearbox, which means that those among us who enjoy the burnouts afforded by a stick-shift will get it. This is good news, of course. Perhaps more surprising was the news that Ford is putting proper all-wheel drive with Dynamic Torque Vectoring on the RS, meaning that it truly lives up to its rally spirit.
And this Rally Spirit extends to the interior as well. With Recaro racing seats, the RS will wrap you in a cocoon of comfort while it absolutely terrifies you. The interior has a distinctly industrial look, which is in keeping with the aesthetic found with the blacked-out rims, big rear wing, and snarling front end. Overall, of course, we love it.
We’ll keep more information coming as we receive it at Harbin Auto, but this is some truly exciting news. To learn more about this exciting performance model from Ford, contact our dealership today!
