Even with all the big news coming out of Harbin Automotive, isn’t it sometimes really nice to let the top down? That’s the question coming from Chevrolet, who has just cracked the lid on the 2016 Chevy Camaro convertible, which is expected to arrive early next year. Apart from the obvious — you know, that it looks really, really cool — it also employs some amazing technology in its new convertible top, which can be seen in action in the video at the bottom of the page.
But we’ll explain, to give you a better idea just what it is you’re looking at. The new Camaro’s top features a four-pronged approach to segment dominance, since it’s the only convertible in the class to offer all four of the following features:
- It has a fully automatic opening process with latches that release automatically and automatically secure the top.
- It’s capable of opening or closing at speeds of up to 30 mph.
- It can be remotely opened using the key fob.
- It has a hard tonneau cover that deploys automatically, resulting in a more refined, finished appearance when the top is lowered and stowed.
Once you’ve viewed the video before, you’ll know exactly what we’re talking about. While some convertibles don’t bother to match the lines of the coupes they’re built off of, this isn’t the case with the Camaro. The electro-hydraulic power roof uses a multilayer construction that certainly recalls the Camaro coupe, resulting in a model that is undeniably attractive to look at.
Of course, this attractiveness is true of the performance of the Camaro convertible as well. The 200 pound weight loss felt in the coupe is found here as well, meaning that the most agile Camaro ever now gets the convertible edition it deserves.
But that’s enough of us yammering on. Get a look at the awesome 2016 Chevy Camaro convertible in action below, and visit us at Harbin Automotive when you’re ready to try one on for yourself!
