2016 Chevy Colorado vs 2017 Honda Ridgeline
Since the return of the Chevy Colorado to the lineup in 2015, there have been relatively slim pickings when it comes to a certifiable contender to the throne. Despite notable attempts from such automakers such as Toyota and Nissan, the Colorado has seen its sales soar and its critical praise soar even higher still. That has left us at Harbin Automotive to ask, will there ever be a true rival for our plucky midsize pickup? We’ve now received a first look at the 2017 Honda Ridgeline, and we’re hopeful that we might have finally found a competitor worthy of the word.
But how do the 2016 Chevy Colorado and 2017 Honda Ridgeline stack up, really? Although the details on the new Ridgeline are still somewhat scarce, we do know that it is built on the Pilot chassis, and that it will feature a unibody construction and front-wheel drive, similar to the outgoing Ridgeline. Due to its Pilot-centric pedigree, we can also reasonably predict its output, which are roundly trumped by what you can expect from the Colorado. Despite similar powertrains -- a 3.5L V6 -- the Colorado is expected to feature sizeable advantages in horsepower, torque and towing capacity, although we should reiterate that details are scarce at this point.

Time will tell whether the 2017 Honda Ridgeline can contend with our 2016 Chevy Colorado, but this much we know is true: the Colorado isn’t giving up its throne without a fight. Stylistically, the Colorado wears shows its rough-hewn lineage through and through, while the Ridgeline is clearly a softer and gentler option. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, mind you, but the two models clearly offer two ends of the spectrum when it comes time to purchase the ideal midsize pickup.
Also remaining to be seen is whether the Ridgeline’s amenities can compare to those of the Colorado. Apart from its otherworldly performance and style, the Colorado is also the class leader in terms of tech, with the built-in 4G LTE WiFi, updated Chevy MyLink and standard rearview camera appealing to the techie in all of us. Factor in Chevy’s obvious reputation for all-wheel excellence and the Colorado’s two-year stand as the Motor Trend Truck of the Year, and it looks to be tough sledding for the 2017 Honda Ridgeline when it saunters into showrooms in fall of 2016.
